ACCELERATED READER

The Accelerated Reader (AR) program is designed to encourage reading. It is a fun program where a child can work at his own pace to achieve individual and group goals. A non-threatening environment of competition motivates the student to want to excel. The AR program supports the curriculum, but is not a subject, and therefore is not graded. The program is supported by the Media Center and is directed by the librarian.
The student reads an AR book from the library, must pass a quiz on the computer, and then earns points for the book. As he/she continues to read and pass quizzes, he accumulates points toward his own individual goal. He is awarded prizes as he reaches half of his goal, and then his full goal for the quarter. His points also count toward the class goal. All classes work toward an all-school goal.
AR books in St. Paul's library are color-coded with dots, indicating the reading level of that book. A sticker inside the cover will give the point value for that book.
