Church History

In June 1995, five people met in rented office space for the first worship service of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Peachtree City, Georgia. It was a modest start for the congregation. But those five people shared a vision of reaching the community around them with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Today, the congregation has 300 baptized members, operates a pre-school and elementary school with grades K-8, and is housed in a multimillion dollar facility with ample adjacent land for future growth.

Peachtree City is a planned community. In 1995 the population was about 25,000. Despite having no school-aged children themselves, the five charter members saw a need in the community. There were no Christian schools in the area. So that is where they began. Instead of putting up a worship facility, they opened a school. The congregation used the school space for Sunday worship. They planned to build a worship facility later.

However, the community had no sites set aside for churches that would be big enough to house both a school and future worship facility. The best church site was a 7-acre plot near the entrance to the community. Fortunately, land adjacent to that exact plot was also for sale by a neighbor. Together the two plots were more than 13 acres, more than enough space. With the help of a $400,000 loan from Lutheran Church Extension Fund, the congregation purchased the land.

In September 1997, St. Paul school opened. Its initial enrollment was 52 students. Classes were held in temporary buildings until the first phase of a permanent building could be completed.

In December, the permanent building that housed a gymnasium, seven classrooms, and an office was ready. The school used the facility during the week. Sunday worship services were held in the gym. As 2000 dawned, the school's enrollment exceeded 200 students.

In August 1999, a second floor was completed on the building. The addition included a cafeteria, five classrooms, media center, computer lab, and small office complex.

Today, the ministry continues to grow and flourish. With 250 students enrolled in our school, a full-time Principal and teaching staff, we are serving the educational needs of our community in various ways.

God continues to grow and bless St. Paul Lutheran Church with many opportunities to serve Him and His people.. With the addition of our new Sr. Pastor, Dan Schepmann; our Director of Youth Ministries, Cory Smith; and several part-time staff, St. Paul is positioned to share the saving message of Jesus Christ in a very unique way through our Christian Day School, worship, and ministries to children and families.

As we live out our lives as His forgiven, redeemed children. As we live out the mission of “Bringing Christ to the Home and Transforming Lives with Eternal Values.” As we live out the 5 purposes of ministry of Worship, Fellowship, Discipleship, Ministry, and Evangelism. As we live out our core values of Prayer, Integrity, Faithfulness to God’s Word, Excellence, and Stewardship, we pray that this process will result in:

“Developing Fully Devoted Followers of Jesus Christ.”
